Community Rules

§1 - Scope

(a) These rules shall serve as the governing document for the Occident.dev community. They shall not apply outside of the Occident.dev Spaces and Rooms.

(b) These rules shall apply to every member of any Space or Room on Occident.dev, regardless of home-server.

(c) These rules shall be cited as “Rule” or “Section”, e.g., this subsection would be cited as “Rule 1(c)” or “§1(c)”. The long form citation shall be “Occident Rule”.

§2 - Definitions

(a) “Server” shall refer to the entire Occident.dev ecosystem, including the website and any Spaces or Rooms which are hosted on Occident.dev.

(b) “Engagement” shall refer to any interaction on the Server, whether in text, voice chat, or reaction features.

(c) “Catholic Church” is defined as being in communion with the Bishop of Rome, presently Leo XIV.

§3 - Amendments

(a) These Rules may be amended at any time by decree of the Server Owner.

(b) When amendments are made, they shall take force immediately upon promulgation.

§4 - Terms of Service Compliance Required

(a) Users are prohibited from violating the Occident Terms of Service as listed on the website.

(b) Upon violation of this section, users shall be banned, and the offending content deleted.

§5 - Chat Etiquette Required

(a) Users are prohibited from bad-faith engagement.

(b) Users may not troll, spam, or engage in other obnoxious behaviors in chat.

(c) Users may not slide chat by typing multiple short messages. User messages should be included as a single message where possible.

(d) Users may not post copy-pastas or other chain messages where doing so will be obnoxious to other users.

(e) Users shall check pins in any given room and shall abide by the stated chat topics in each channel.

(f) In any channel designated for memes, users shall not engage in extensive text-based discussion.

(g) Users should not dog-pile in a discussion room. Whether conduct constitutes 'dog-piling' is a matter of moderator discretion.

(h) Users are prohibited from having usernames, nicknames, or user profile photos that are offensive, obnoxious, or otherwise contrary to these rules.

§6 - Thoughtful Engagement Required

(a) Users shall engage in a thoughtful manner.

(b) Users shall not present themselves as authorities on a matter if they do not have some reasonable claim to knowledge on the subject, whether personally or professionally.

§7 - Solicitation Prohibited

(a) Users may not solicit or advertise products or services on Occident without express permission from Administrators.

(b) Users may not solicit therapy or spiritual warfare advice.

(c) Users may not solicit romantic or sexual interactions with anyone else on the server, except those who know each other in real life.

§8 - Not-Safe-For-Work Content Prohibited

(a) Pornography, gore, and other images that are NSFW are prohibited.

(b) This rule includes erotica and other non-visual forms of material that is intended to arouse.

(c) Pornography is defined as any visual content which has as its exclusive purpose the intention to arouse.

(d) Gore is defined as any image or other media which would not be appropriate for showing on United States public television broadcasts.

(e) Excessive swearing and use of foul or offensive language is discouraged. Occasional foul language is permitted but excessive use of profanity is prohibited.

(f) Use of words or phrases which blaspheme the name of God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, or the Virgin Mary are strictly prohibited.

(g) Discussion of sensitive topics such as human sexuality, violence and warfare, abuse, suicide, self-harm, and drug usage should be limited to discussion channels and shall not occur in any general or meme channels.

§9 - Server Policies

(a) The Server shall be known as “Occident”.

(b) The Server shall have no official religion, people of all faiths are welcome to participate.

(c) Notwithstanding subsection (b), Christianity shall be given pride-of-place on the Server, and only Christians shall be permitted to hold official Server prayer groups, Bible Studies, or other forms of religious services.

§10 - Server Organization

(a) The Server shall be organized into several spaces.

(b) Users are prohibited from creating rooms or spaces on occident.dev apart from the official ones.

§11 - Server Roles

(a) The Server shall be led by the Server Owner, who is the individual that has access to the root user on the occident.dev server.

  • The Server Owner shall have original jurisdiction over any dispute or controversy which arises on the server.
  • The Server Owner shall determine the construction of these Rules.

(b) The Server Owner shall be assisted by Administrators, if he chooses to appoint any.

  • Administrators shall have appellate jurisdiction over any other user on the Server, except the Server Owner.
  • Administrators may be appointed at any time by the Server Owner from among existing moderators.
  • Administrators shall enjoy all the same power as Moderators in addition to Administrator powers.

(c) Administrators shall be assisted by Moderators.

  • Moderators shall have jurisdiction over any controversy in a room or channel in which they are present.
  • Moderators may be appointed by the Server Owner from among existing Strategos users.

(d) Moderators shall be assisted by Stratgeos users.

  • Strategos users shall not have jurisdiction over any controversy, but enjoy pride of place and social approval.
  • Strategos users shall be elected by a process outlined in §12 of these rules.

(e) Users who have any of the ranks described in subsections (a) through (d) cannot be banned except by the Server Owner.

§12 - Strategos Elections

(a) Any user who was elected Strategos on the IHS/Alexandrian School Discord Server prior to March 15th, 2026 is automatically elected to Strategos by virtue of these rules, provided that the said user remains continuously present on Occident from June 1, 2026.

(b) On the first day of each month, any existing Strategos user may nominate any user on the Server to the rank of Strategos.

  • Nominations are to be made in the designated Strategos room.
  • Nominees must not have been previously disqualified from the rank of Strategos.

(c) When a nomination is timely made, an election is triggered. The election shall last until a quorum of at least two thirds of the existing Strategos users have voted.

(d) A user is elected Strategos if quorum has been met and at least two-thirds of the vote was in favor of election.

(e) If quorum is not met by the end of the third day of the month of nomination, the election ends and the user is not elected.

(f) If the Server Owner exercises veto power, the user is not elected.

§13 - Revocation of Strategos

(a) A user who has previously received Strategos rank loses it automatically if they leave the Occident community for a period greater than 14 days.

(b) A user who is banned from Occident loses Strategos rank immediately automatically.

(c) Upon complaint by another Strategos user, a user can be demoted from Strategos either by a vote (with two thirds quorum) of two thirds of existing Strategos users, or by decree by the Server Owner.

(d) A user expelled from Strategos rank by the procedure outlined in subsection (c) is not eligible for election to the rank in the future.
